How to sell your Gold Jewelry Collection

sell gold

2nd Markets is an Internet merchant who has been buying from the public for over 30 years (BEFORE the Internet!). You sell to us by either asking us to travel to buy your collection, by bringing the collection to us in Tennessee, or by shipping to us using our Fedex account after getting our preliminary bid. You begin the process of selling by contacting us. But, before you do, we highly recommend that you check up on us. You should check up on any buyer you choose to deal with.

Step 1 - Check up on us.

Before you sell to any Internet buyer, you should learn who they are. Do they have a good reputation and a history of keeping their word? We invite you to check up on us before you decide whether or not to do business with us.

What do our customers say? Read the reviews of hundreds of happy sellers who have sold to us in the past. (If a buyer cannot provide customer reviews - beware!)

Step 2 - Make your list.

You can put as much work into this as you want, but the more detail you provide, the better informed our offer will be. You can simply say "Got a few gold rings for sale" (LOL) or "we have 55 gold rings from an estate" or you can write "55 rings, bracelets and chains consisting of a mix of gold and silver, all Made in Americas"...or you can provide a detailed, line by line listing of all 55 pieces. You may not have the energy or the expertise to do much more than give a count. That's OK. But understand, the more you can tell us about what you have the more light we have with which to make an informed, sight-unseen offer.

Dealers buy your gold based on two variables: Weight and purity. A gold wedding band has GOLD value, but not so much jewelry value. Of course, diamonds and other precious stones add value but semi-precious stones do not. Tiny chips of diamond do not add value.

PURITY (or fineness) of gold is one variable in determining the value. The purity of gold is measured on the karat system, which is a 24-point scale signifying the percentage of gold a piece of metal contains. So, if gold jewelry is 14K, it is 14 out of 24 parts gold, or 58.33 percent gold.

WEIGHT of gold items are measured in grams and TROY OUNCES. There are 31.1 grams in a TROY ounce while there are only 28.4 grams in a standard ounce. Gold and other precious metals are not bought and sold by standard ounces. When you see the price of gold on television or online, it is for a TROY ounce of gold, not an avoirdupois or standard ounce.

To make a detailed inventory list, it should have these data points:
1. TYPE OF PIECE (ring, chain, bracelet?)
2. PURITY (if you don't know what the purity mark is, skip it, we will come back to it)
3. WEIGHT (in grams, you will need a kitchen scale for this. If you don't have a scale, we can't give a sight-unseen offer - you may have to ship on approval or bring to us in this case.)
4. CONDITION (broken or like new? We will buy it either way)
5. STONES (describe any stones or other things that are a part of the piece)

Step 3 - Contact Us

Once you have your list, it is time to send it to us. We offer several ways to do this:

Complete our SECURE online form:

Alternatively, email us direct. Our email is leads@2ndmarkets.com

You can also FAX it to us if you prefer (some of us are old school). Our SECURE FAX number is 423-815-1426.

Step 4 - Whitelist Us

All initial communication is via email. We do not call you on the phone (at least at first). So that our emails are not blocked by your provider, please add LEADS@2NDMARKETS.COM to your email address book or contacts list.

Step 5 - We Reply

We receive hundreds of leads every week, as you might imagine. We try to reply to every single person who contacts us, but sometimes, if we are not interested, or not enough information was provided, or we are swamped, we may not reply. If you do not hear from us within 48 hours of initial contact, please send an email to leads@2ndmarkets.com and ask about the status of your inquiry.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL TO INQUIRE.
